Distilled by one of our favorite producers, Atenogenes is back with his infamous tractor, an ensamble of three great magueys and a new element: bottling at still strength. I was thankful when Jason Cox of 5 Sentidos reached out regarding the potential for this batch to come to fruition. He had heard from Atenogenes that he wanted to share a sample for Jason to try. I told Jason to let us know how it was. Unsurprisingly, Jason said it was great, but he wanted to run it through the lab before sharing. Why? Atenogenes mentioned it was still strength and he thought around 57% or so. Jason wanted to be sure. Lab analysis came back north of Atenogenes estimation at 58.3% ABV – our highest batch ABV yet.
- Maestro Palanquero: Atenogenes Garcia
- Bottler: 5 Sentidos
- Batch: EN3MO2-21
- ABV: 58.3% ABV
- Yield: 101 Bottles
- Blend: 39% Madrecuixe, 36% Espadin, 25% Bicuixe
- Distillation: Double distillation, copper alembic
- Fermentation: 13 Days, Local Well Water, Natural Yeast, Pine Tank
- Village: San Isidro Guishe
- Tasting Notes: Wild and fun: big vanilla bean initially on the nose, before some minerality swoops in. Bold orange peel, faint cracked pepper, lime and the light grassy funk I typically get from the ‘cuixes. Viscous and satisfying on the palate, the bump in ABV exacerbates the balance between sweet and fruity character and delivers a long finish filled with sweet fruits like papaya, cantaloupe, lime and lemon and a satisfying mineral exit.
